Bill o'byrne Bursary
Bill O’Byrne Player Development Bursary Program — PPA
What it is: A bursary fund to help PPA members improve their pickleball skills and take part in competitive or development opportunities, while promoting the Association through member representation at tournaments and training.
Money: $2,500 allocated annually, with a maximum of $500 per recipient per year. The committee decides how funds are split among applicants.
Who qualifies: Current members in good standing who show a commitment to improving, describe the activity they’re pursuing, and submit a complete written application.
What it covers: Tournament entry fees, travel to tournaments or training, coaching, clinics and camps, and other approved development activities. The committee has final say on whether an expense qualifies.
How to apply: A written application to the Bursary Committee including name and membership confirmation, current playing level and experience, details of the event or training, how it will help their development, and estimated costs plus the amount requested. Deadlines are announced annually. To apply, send an email to peterboroughpickleball@gmail.com
Who decides: A Board-appointed Selection Committee evaluates on commitment to development, tournament/training participation, benefit to the applicant and the PPA, and equitable distribution. All recommendations go to the Board for final approval.
After the fact: Recipients may be asked to submit a short report on their experience, acknowledge PPA support, and serve as a role model for future applicants.
Governance: Administered by the Board, which can review, amend, or discontinue the program. Takes effect on Board approval, with signature lines for the President and Secretary.
