Peterborough super Senior Pickleball athletes took home medals from the Durham Region Ontario Senior 55+ Games competition held October 29 – October 30, 2024 at the Durham Sportsplex in Oshawa.
The Ontario 55+ Games is supported by the Ontario Government through its Games Ontario program. This program delivers and supports multi-sport events, including the Ontario Winter and Summer Games for youth, the Ontario 55+ Winter and Summer Games and the Ontario Parasport Games. The Games welcome Ontarians age 55+ looking to compete with the opportunity to progress to Provincial and National competitions in their selected sport or activity. Over 30 geographic Districts hosts 36 sanctioned events throughout the year.
“The Ontario Senior Games +55 are modelled after the Olympics in municipalities interested in hosting the games,” says Shelley Moloney, President, Peterborough Pickleball Association. “These games have proven to be very popular and as such are growing with each set of games. Municipalities are very interested in hosting because of this popularity but also because of the economic impact and the lasting legacy the games have on an area. We are excited that pickleball is one of the sports in the Ontario and Canadian Senior +55 Games and that our local athletes are medaling and bringing recognition to our community.”
Results for Peterborough Athletes were as follows:
Women’s Doubles Skill: (Age 60 – 65 Years)
• Silver Medal Winners – Danielle French and Nancy Sharpe
Men’s Doubles Skill: (Age 70 Years and Above)
• Gold Medal Winners – Hans Stelzer and William Langley (Oshawa)
Men’s Doubles Skill: (Age 60 – 65 Years)
• Gold Medal Winners Alan Sargeant and Tom Windsor (Cobourg)
